Beyond these shores

Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is in West Africa situated between Liberia and Guinea. It is still recovering from its violent civil war. MMS(Ireland) has been its partner in mission for many years. Irish staff have helped to develop the witness of the Church:

• in village and town work; in primary and secondary schools;
• in teacher training colleges; in rural clinics for woman and child care; in the training of nurses and midwives at Segbwema Hospital;
• in the preparation of men and women for the ordained ministry;
• and in promotion of the national literacy campaign for adults who did not have the opportunity to learn to read and write at school.

 

Let us thank God

• for faithful members who have returned to their villages to rebuild their homes and meet in Christian fellowship

• for members who have helped to create the conditions of peace and abhorrence

• for the doctors, nurses and midwives in re-establishing Segbwema Hospital after the ravages of civil war

• for all the teachers and lecturers in the training college in Freetown that they may enable students to face the new challenge of faiths and present God's gospel to all tribes

• for all Christians that they may learn to love one another
